Product Description
Description: Believe me when I say that this is the last book on handicapping horse races that you'll ever need! It also gives a lot of wonderful insights from a former Horseman, who also happens to be a winning Horseplayer. In writing this book, I've made a very concerted effort to try and incorporate as much pertinent horsemanship knowledge into many of the chapters, as a way to better serve the novice, average, or below average horseplayer. I truly believe that after reading this book, you will immediately come away with a better sense of yourself (as a horseplayer), and will soon realize where exactly it is you want to be as a horseplayer. You may come to the realization that you're always going to be just a recreational horseplayer, in the world of handicapping the races. Or, you might have a wonderful epiphany and realize that maybe you too can become a more successful horseplayer. Maybe, a "professional"!

2 out of 5 stars requires lots of professional help   March 12, 2009

This book needs a professional horseplayer to review it for accuracy. Then it requires an editor. The writing and math are poor. An example is on page 100. He combines a pick 4 with the last race of that series to guarantee making a profit. The 3-1 selection he showcases works profitably, but when I tried the horse at 9-2 odds, he lost money (at least with my math). So much for guarantees. I believe Tuttle is experienced, but has a difficult time getting some points across. BTW - I wish there were more points of interest to make winning plays. He should also try to write less "formally" and more like regular people "talk". His style is close to irritating. It's better than a 1 star, but not quite a 3. Good luck.

I found this book to be extremely informative on many different levels. I purchased this book along with "The Tuttle Way", and I must say: The "Angles" chapter in The Ultimate Guide, and the use of Sabermetrics as an advanced way to determine actual "class" of each individual horse is absolutely 100% pure genius!!!!! A year ago I didn't know anything about handicapping. Now, I feel as though I'm on my way to greatness. I've already entered (and done quite well I might add) a few handicapping contests and I can honestly attribute all of my recent successes to Mr. Joseph J Tuttle. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!!!

I have been in the game for over 25 years and this book was a complete waste of money. the author is pretty high on himself and writes like he's looking down on the people who buy his book. He also thinks everybody should have a $ 7,000 bankroll, not every body plays the game on a serious note. He also gave few angles to work with pertaning to handicapping.
